Got AV for your phone? You are still probably screwed.

AV-Comparitives.org has revealed that there is a big problem with Antivirus products for Android with some really disappointing results.
Fortunately, a few products did rise to the occasion which will be listed at the end of this post.

Android is the operating system that drives phones, tablets and other devices needing a simple, flexible operating system.
Now because of the times we live in, we are constantly under attack from hackers, viruses, spyware and malware. I personally do not like Antivirus applications because at the best of times as they are mostly ineffective and create a false sense of security where users think they can charge ahead without consideration for cybersecurity.

Antivirus can not catch all threats and in most cases of the 250 products sampled only 50 were able to come close to adequate by detecting 90% (when it comes to antivirus a 50% mark is not a pass).

Apps that did manage to pick up 100% of all viruses tested were:

  • AhnLab
  • Antiy
  • Avast
  • AVG
  • AVIRA
  • Bitdefender
  • BullGuard
  • Chili Security
  • Emsisoft
  • ESET
  • ESTSoft
  • F-Secure
  • G Data
  • Kaspersky Lab
  • McAfee
  • PSafe
  • Sophos
  • STOPzilla
  • Symantec
  • Tencent
  • Total Defense
  • Trend Micro
  • Trustwave

Once again to reiterate, even good anti virus software is no match for poor cyber hygiene. Stay alert and stay safe.
