The Thinkpad Carbon X1 has a potential issue that could result in fire.
A problem discovered in the laptop has prompted Lenovo to issue a recall to all affected laptops. All owners of the 5th Generation ThinkPad Carbon X1 are urged to visit the Lenovo recall website to determine if their laptop is affected and arrange for corrective work to be carried out immediately.
The problem in a manufacturing issue where a screw was not fastened correctly and has the potential to damage the Lithium Ion battery. Lithium Ion batteries are notorious for failing in specatular ways with smoke, fire and even explosions when compromised and considering the issues we saw with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, taking this action is justified.
The Laptops affected are 5th generation X1 built between December 2016 and October 2017 and carry the machine type of 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 and 20K4.
